I hope that everybody had a fun & safe weekend! The D household had the best of both worlds this weekend...one day of fun & excitement outside of our 4 walls and a day of relaxing, lounging, and indoor-play.
Saturday we went to the home show in the neighboring town. It wasn't so much that we actually wanted or needed to see any of the booths but it was just nice to get out of the house (in the winter) and do something that was kid-friendly. M.D. got LOTS of attention from all of the booth folks and we got some pretty sweet S.W.A.G. (Stuff.We.All.Get.)...thank you Michael Scott).
Sunday was really fun as well...at home :)
M.D. woke up early but spent about 1.5 hrs snuggling/sleeping in bed with his Mom & Dad so that was awesome. I even snapped a picture of Daddy & M.D. snuggled up.

Sunday we also gave rice cereal another go. I've read a lot about how rice cereal is a non-essential when it comes to babies' dietary needs since it has "no nutritional value", however, it's supposedly a good practice food & has little to no allergic reaction even in sensitive tummies so we're giving it a go. I will say that I couldn't believe the differences in the ingredient lists in the rice cereal brands. Yup, I'm becoming that Mom. I don't even read the ingredient list in my OWN foods, however, anything that's going in M.D.'s tummy needs to be inspected first.
On my rice cereal hunt I immediately gravitated toward Gerber brand...that is what we use for M.D.'s formula (Gerber Good Start) and it has been amazing so I was hopeful that we could stick with. I was, unfortunately, turned-off by Gerber's cereal. Here's a list of the ingredients:

I heard somewhere that if you can't pronounce the ingrediants in your food you shouldn't eat it. Do I follow this rule myself...H NO! But...M.D. is only 5 months old and I do not want him exposed to things I can't even pronounce yet. Especially in his first food. I mean...it's rice cereal? What could it possibly need besides...I dunno...rice? I thought I was asking for too much. Turns out...I wasn't. We ended up purchasing Earth's Best Organic Whole Grain Rice Cereal. Long name...not a long ingredient list. Guess what's in it? Organic Whole Grain Rice.
Weird.
Weird.
The other ingredients listed that aren't brown rice or bran are Tocopherols (Vitamin E), alpha-Amylase (grain enzyme), and Iron. All essential to the product. You can't win 'em all when it comes to rice cereal...unless you have a rice paddy in your backyard. Once M.D. starts on fruits & veggies we will be set because I will be making his food homemade and can control what goes in & what doesn't. Until then, I think I've found the best that the rice cereal world has to offer.
So, we gave the rice cereal another go and M.D. did awesome. He loved it. Too much. He kept wanting more, more more....until about an hour later when he spit up. Cereal. Ugh. Formula spit-up has NOTHING on cereal spit up. Talk about goopy mess. Oh well! Live & Learn :)
