We headed down to Gillette Children's hospital to see the (in)famous cranio-facial plastic surgeon regarding M.D.'s flat spot. It was nerve-wracking. It also ended up being kind of chaotic on the way down. M.D. and Steven came and picked me up from work. M.D. came in and made the rounds in cube-land, smiling at all of my co-workers. We left and drove down to the hospital. We were supposed to arrive 15 mins prior to our first scheduled appontment. We had 2 scheduled appointments (technically). The first was at 3:20 and it was his height & weight appointment. Our second was with the surgeon at 3:35. When we got to the parking ramp there were NO SPOTS. We drove around for what seemed like forever. When we finally found one and got in the building it was already 3:10. Then, the line to check-in was very long...so by the time we were all checked in it was 3:20...time for height & weight appointment. No paperwork filled out yet. We got his height & weight done, and Steven realized the bottle we had pre-filled with water had spilled about half it's contents into my purse on the way down. We were called directly to an exam room after height & weight (still no paperwork filled out). M.D. was starving. Steven had picked him up from daycare and brought him right to my work so he hadn't eaten for a while. So we scrambled to feed him, fill out paperwork, and be prepped for when the surgeon came in. Luckily he was running a few minutes late.
The diagnosis: No Helmet.
PHEW!
They basically leave it up to the parents to make the final decision..but the overall consensus was that no helmet is needed. M.D.'s case of Plagiocephaly is very mild, and will most likely correct itself over the course of the next few months.
I can literally hear the $1200 copay finding its way back into my wallet :)
Speaking of $1200, we have reached the age with M.D. where we need a heap of new products to keep him busy, safe, and happy. Dangit. He's outgrowing the infant carseat. It's getting WAY too heavy to keep lifting and carrying around, and his legs are getting too long to the point where we can't use the wrap-around winter cover anymore. So, it's time for the convertible carseat upgrade. We need two carseats since we have two vehicles that M.D. regularly rides in. We also are needing a new bath seat for baby M.D. we've been using a foam pad for him to lay on, but now that he's wanting to try to sit up more and more we need something for him sit in so he can splash. He can't fully sit up on his own yet, so we need something that has some degree of support as well. I'm really excited about what I found.

The Munchkin Inflatable Duck Tub is pretty much exactly what we are looking for, and at $12 it is right within our price range :) The benefits include: Low price, Inflatable (thus also de-flatable for easy storage), Soft support (baby can either lay with head on back pillow (tail) or sit. Water saver (you only fill the duck itself with water so you don't have to fill an entire bathtub for a 5 minute bathtime).
Here's a link to the item on BabysRUs which is where I found the best price.

Another major purchase that we need is a top-of-stairs baby gate. This is an absolute must for our split-level home. I found a gate that I think will work perfectly. Originally, I wanted a wooden gate to match our banister/floors, but at this point I am more focused on safety rating and price so the wood gate went right out the window. I'm a big fan of this gate for our situation. It's neutrally colored, awesome safety rating, and very reasonable pricing. It's also specifically for top-of-the-stairs meaning it's very convenient for usage in that area. Some gates are not ideal for top or bottom of stairs based on how they swing or function. This one looks like a great match.
We struck gold in timing regarding the carseat situation. My nephew has just outgrown his convertible carseat and is starting in a booster seat. Both my brother and mom have convertible carseats that were used for him that are no longer in use. Guess who gets to borrow those seats for M.D.? Yup. This girl. SO excited. What a money saver for us. Thanks Family!! :)
Well, that's the update for now! More to come :)
