I am on an island. Alone. Nobody else is on my island. Damnit.
I'm on diaper island. More specifically: Cloth Diaper Island.
I love this island.
It's inexpensive....looks great....not too hard to maintain...
But nobody is on my island with me.
So, with great disappointment, I have to admit, I think I have to jump off of the island.
It's not working. Well, I shouldn't be that general. It's not working for all of the crucial people that it's supposed to work for in order for this to be successful. It's working for me. It's not working for others. And that's OK. But it's not going to work if it's only working for me.
I am the only person who regularly change's M.D.'s diaper who has decided that cloth diapering is a great idea. The Only Person. Steven has never been a big fan. He liked the idea of the cost savings, but when it came down to changing a wet and/or poop filled cloth diaper....he wasn't thrilled. M.D.'s daycare doesn't do cloth diapering..so that put another wrench in the plans. So that leaves me. I really do like them. A Lot. But what's the point of filling a diaper pail 1X a month because he only gets put in a cloth diaper when I change him? That is silly. Especially considering there are multiple websites where people want to BUY your cloth diapers. This makes me feel at least somewhat better. People will make this so it wasn't a waste of time or money.
We will have almost made it 3 months. Doesn't seem like long...but in the world of purchasing disposable diapers, we probably broke even already. I'm on the fence about giving up. Because I don't want to give up. But I also don't want to keep this routine up. It might be time to throw in the towel.
For the record...I think everyone should try it at least. If you can get your daycare/family/spouse/etc to like cloth diapers as well then I'm so happy for you! Like I've said 100 times...I LOVE CLOTH DIAPERS!! But that top drawer of M.D.'s changing table could be put to a lot more use if it's not filled with cloth diapers that are only being put on him 1-2 times daily.
In other news...here's a photo gallery of our past week :)
