M.D.'s 1st birthday party has come and gone. If you're friends with me on Facebook, you already know a lot about the "look" and theme of the party. It was honestly a blast. I had (almost) as much fun decorating for it as hosting it! My goal was to create unique and fun decorations at as low of a price as possible. I'll give you a photo tour of the party...with some tips and tricks along the way!
The drink station was my favorite part of the decorations and was the first thing I came up with. It actually started the whole "cowboy" theme. I wanted to use mason jars in the decorations because of the obvious reference ;) I found that Amazon had the cheapest mason jars around. I also found the adorable red & white striped straws on Amazon (they were SUPER cheap!). I made the "watering hole" sign on picmonkey. It was kind of annoying to print (Walmart prints screwed it up 100 times). I then just used poster board and a hot glue gun to make it have a hard backing and stand on it's own. I bought a bunch of red bandanas on Amazon and found the "hay" at a dollar store (YIPPE!!!) I swear a dollar store is the only place you can find brown easter basket filler on September :) We used the tin to hold ice for the drinks, and we also had lemonade (not shown) as a drink option.
I wanted the food to be cowboy themed (which was really pretty easy!) So we went with the basic pulled pork sandwiches, my mom's bean casserole, veggie trays, and chips with taco dip (delicious recipe off of Pinterest). Again, sign was printed via picmonkey & stand and backing made with my little creativity using hot glue gun & poster board :) Also, please note the Party City tableware that were NOT cowboy themed...but still managed to do the job!
Kind of hard to see, but you get the idea. I found the brown cowboy hat on Amazon and picked up the clothes pins and twine at the dollar store (yay!) The pictures were all of the monthly "chair pics" that I took of MD throughout his first year. The numbers were created on picmonkey.
AHHHHHH the CAKE!! Isn't it magical!? My friend Jen made this beautiful masterpiece along with the partnering "smash cake" for our party. She is so gifted and I'm so grateful she took on making this cake for the birthday party :)
